I can’t help seeing it, as a blur. Lunch today. David pulled Brent aside. “Take Odin down the side exit fifteen minutes after school today.”

“Why?” Brent asked.

“Because we have business with him.”

“Fuck you,” said Brent.

“Why do you care?” asked David. “You’re not even friends anymore. He’s a fucking freak. He doesn’t belong here.” Brent shook his head. “Look,” David said, “someone is going home bloody today. If it isn’t him, it’s gonna be you.”

“Why?” Brent asked.

“For being on his side. So it’s your choice. Is freak boy worth the pounding?”

Brent thought for a moment.

“Side exit?” Brent asked. “Fifteen minutes after school?”

“Yeah.” Brent hung his head as David walked away.
